The building was originally a simple day labourer’s house on the edge of the village of Irmenach. It was only converted into a smithy in 1928 after the death of its last owner. It depicts a Hunsrück nail smithy of the 1930s. Among other things, nails for carpenters, roofers and shoemakers were made here. The building was constructed in 1807 and initially served as a simple residential building.
