K. P. Cavafy’s poem “Monotony” was recited by George Merantzas in 1983, and was included in the album “The Old Man of Alexandria”. The poem expresses the pessimism of the subject that results from a mechanical repetition of similar actions due to compulsory work requirements and other kinds of obligations. This leads to a sense of entrapment.
