Pathology description
There is lateral wedging and asymmetry in body height with the right side being larger by c. 5mm. On the left side, the superior and inferior margins of the body have extensive osteophytic growth and the lateral surface of the body has irregular new compact bone outgrowths. Further osteophytosis is observed on the superior and inferior articular facets, which also have areas of surface pitting/porosity. The superior half of the inferior facet is destroyed. There is calcification of the intervertebral disc on the right half of the superior surface of the body. The inferior body surface has extensive pitting, porosity, and eburnation along the anterior and left margins and partial calcification of intervertebral disc along the anterior and right margins. Along the left margin is also a large cavitation, measuring c. 6.8mm mediolateral x 6.5mm anteroposterior x 3.7mm deep.
