Fragment of sandstone carved on one face with a geometric key pattern, from St Ola’s Church, Whiteness, Shetland. Like X.IB 256 from the same site, this panel of stone was broken up and reused as building material, and so it is no longer able to determine what form of monument this comes from. However, given the ornate decoration, they are likely to have been memorial or architectural sculpture from an ecclesiastical site.
Accession number: X.IB 257
Date: 8th to 10th century
Materials: Sandstone
**Dimensions: ** 250mm H x 230mm W x 80mm D
