More model informationThe 192 ft Sidewheeler Sea Bird was built in 1859 by E.B. Ward in Marine City, MI as a passenger steamer. She ran first on Lake Erie then moved to Lake Michigan and was finally bought by the Goodrich Company for service on the west shore of Lake Michigan. It tragically burned and sank off Waukegan, Illinois killing some 72 to 100 passengers and crew with only three survivors. It was one of the worst loss of life tragedies in Great Lakes history. The Sea Bird was discovered by shipwreck hunter Harry Zych. The model was created from 1,389 30-megapixel images shot by Andrew Goodman in the 2025 season.
