The photogrammetry shows one of 8 slipways and foundations that assisted the launch of large Phoenix caissons at Stone Point (A key part of the D-Day Mulberry harbour). The foundations are likely to be undercut by sea storms eventually so it is neccessary to record and survey as much as possible on this coastal site. There is further information about the construction at Lepe and operation Overlord on http://www.citizan.org.uk/interactive-coastal-map/82163/ and http://www.newforestheritage.org/building-mulberry-harbours/ also http://www.newforestheritage.org/d-day-at-lepe-beach/ nb.
