The “Segelmotiv I,” which was erected in 1962 in front of the Bank der Gemeinwirtschaft in Hamburg, is one of the last three major works by sculptor Rudolf Belling. The artist has been considered a pioneer of abstract sculpture in Germany ever since he created his “Dreiklang” in 1919, which acts like a sculptural form for the rhythmic movement of dance.
