Seriatopora caliendrum (NHMW-Zoo3-EV13687)3D Model
3D scan of the calcium carbonate skeleton of a stony coral (Seriatopora caliendrum). Seriatopora caliendrum can be found across the tropical Indo-Pacific ocean, down to depths of 35 m. IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) attributes this species a conservation status of Near Threatened.
This specimen, originated from Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) in the Red Sea and collected during the Pola expedition, came to the museum in 1900. It was scanned as part of a pilot study to identify new morphological traits for species delimitation, and it is not on display in the showrooms of the NHM Vienna.
