Description: This sample is commercially found as “Rainforest Green Marble” but is not technically a marble, it’s a Serpentinite crossed by a reticulated array of veins rich in black oxide mineral grains. Serpentinite is a fibrous ± vein-type, nonfoliated, green-black metamorphic rock composed predominantly of serpentine minerals (see serpentine subgroup).
Essential minerals: serpentine subgroup (e.g. antigorite, lizardite), magnetite.
Non-essential minerals: chlorite, talc, brucite, magnesite, tremolite, calcite, relics of various types, etc.
