The work is mysterious and important…
This project started off as a simple 3D model for a friend to 3D print and ended up taking on a life of it’s own as a completed portfolio piece after that version was complete! I found references from the show itself, set photos, and behind the scenes content from the prop house that created these retro futurist beauties, plus museum images of the original retro computer that the MDR terminals are based on.
I wanted to get as close to the subject matter as possible while also taking some creative liberties where quality reference photos didn’t exist, such as the back panel and power cords. I can’t say I’d ever want to do office work on a trackball mouse, but I had a ton of fun with this project!
I used 3ds Max for modeling and UV Unwrapping, Substance Painter for baking and texturing, and Marmoset Toolbag for lighting/rendering.
