KK016-013---- This stone was discovered in 1970 on the townland border between Shankill, Co. Kilkenny and Wells, Co. Carlow (see KK016-013----). It was presented to the museum at Rothe House where it is on display (Old Kilkenny Review 1969, 101). It is a remarkably small stone, measuring c. 0.57m H, 0.14m at its widest point and 0.055m T. It is mounted on a wooden base in such a way as to obscure the final consonant on the first angle of the inscription. The inscription is on three angles reading downwards as follows: left angle MAQI CUNALIG. . . ; right front angle MAQI; right rear angle MUCOI COSCIS/N. The size of the stone has led McManus (1991, 75-6) to suggest that ‘one might entertain some doubt as to its antiquity. https://ogham.celt.dias.ie/Shankill
