On the night of June 16, 2024, we were out mapping Lake Ontario with the new multi-beam unit that we installed on the boat when we picked up this interesting target in deep waters of the lake. We did not get a chance to check out this target until two years later in July of 2026. The conditions of Lake Ontario were perfect when we were on the lake that day so we decided to put the ROV down on this site. It turned out to be the scow schooner Shannon that was originally discovered in July of 2012 by Dan Scoville and Chris Koberstein. Because the lake is so deep in that area we were only able to map part of the shipwreck. This site is a totally intact scow schooner with two mast still standing. It leans to the port side on the bottom of the lake with a tremendous amount of steel cables hanging from the mast so we have to approach it very carefully.
