More model informationNiagara Side-Wheeler was built in 1845 for the Collingwood Line of the New York & Erie Railway Co, Erie PA. On September 22, 1856 it departed Collingwood with 300 passengers. Two days later it caught on fire and sank off Belgium, WI. killing 60 passengers and crew. Today it lies in 55 ft of water and is a popular dive site. Much of the walking beam steam engine is extant on the site although in a tangled heap. The HD video for the model was shot in 2009 not for a model but fortunately covered a high percentage of the site. The holes in the model are caused by incomplete video coverage and areas where the distance to the wreckage was too far to clearly define the part of the wreck.
