Signing Oak, Windsor Great Park

The Sighning Oak is ~1000 yrs old and has a hollow trunk (not obvious from outside) with a girth of 9.94m. It is a pampered beauty taking pride of place at Windsor Great Park (size: 2020 hectares!) which is part of the Crown Estates. So named as it is the site where the Crown Estates signed the Nature Conservation Agreement with the Nature Conservancy Council in the 1970s by which they took over the conservation of this important ancient oak.

The SCATTER project was funded by the Woodland Trust & carried out by researchers from UCL with logistical support & ancient oak expertise from The Ancient Tree Forum.
