More model informationThis inscribed silver cross from the 7th century AD was found at the beginning of the 20th century in an early medieval grave under the gothic Cathedral of Lausanne (Vaud, Switzerland). Intended to ward off misfortune, it is engraved on both sides with the protective formula “ABRAX ABRACA”, which later became ABRACADABRA. It is thus a good illustration of how ancestral practices and beliefs also find their place within the new Christian religion, that spread on the Swiss Plateau in the 5th century AD. It is also one of the rare european object of that period with an inscription. Height: 9 cm. Scan by onsitu.
