More model informationBrine boiling pots were supported above a fire in a salt kitchen by clay cylinder vessel supports. At the top of the cylinder there was a socket with a superior concave surface where the vessel rested. The angle of the cylinder shows how it was oriented. We assume there were 3 vessel supports as was common for the ancient Maya. The longest cylinder was 35 cm showing the height above a fire. Most were fragmentary. The socket was found in association with pole and thatch buildings preserved below the sea floor in mangrove peat. For more info see www.underwatermaya.com.
