The monument on a hill in Bratislava’s Old Town was erected in honor of the Soviet soldiers who lost their lives during the Second World War when the city of Bratislava was conquered in April 1945. The area consists of a staircase of honour, a cemetery with 6 mass graves and 278 individual graves, a hall of honour, various statues and a 39.5 meter high pillar. The monument to Ján Svetlík was built between 1957 and 1960.
