I was in a discussion with a friend of mine about ingame trees and came up the Animal Crossing trees, which seemed like an easy project. I estimated them to be made in 10m. In reality it took me around 2 hours, most of it was just putting the leaves on a sphere. I ended up removing the sphare adndecimating the model greatly.
The goal was to make the lowest poly tree I can make and to make it as quick as possible, optimize it to game quality. I ended up cutting the bottom of the trunk as well as the top.I also had to re-do the leaves, small leaves looked better but poly count was high.
I think the biggest problem this time was the trunk, after adding subdivision surface modifier, it became too detailed and decimate was evenly took out parts of it making it less good. This is not WoW tree where every point is calcualted, alltogether I went down to 1700 tris that is not too bad.
