I started working on a larger set of props for a bandit camp. As a first step, I modelled ~30 models, tents, torches, candles, barrels, barrel racks, a blacksmith shop with tools and bellows. I also learned how to make chains and rope “procedurally”, where the shape and length of the rope is controlled by a curve in blender. I can now make a model with all kinds of rope and it only uses a small handpainted texture for rope that is properly and seamlessly extends to the length I need. The merged model has 2 materials, 1 for the actual model and 1 for the rope. Video for the rope tutorial: https://youtu.be/1drRNphACMc I modified this to use my own rope texture. I downloaded the texture in this video and used Krita to handpaint my own rope texture looking similarly to the one shown in the video, seamless, but handpainted. The end result, although a bit darker than I expected, looks good enough.
