Clay model. Pskov, Russia, XIV Century
One day Sasha Deimov, archaeologist at the Pskov Kremlin, walking with me along the bank of the Velikaya River, took a strange object out of his pocket and handed it to me: - Look, do you know what it is? I twisted this clay abstraction in hands, weighed it in my palm, it was 15 sm long… - I don’t know, Sasha, what is it? - Just imagine, 700 years ago a man was walking along the shore, just like we are now. And he’s rubbing in his hands a piece of soft clay, he’s rubbing it without purpose, he’s just relaxing from the slow pace of his thoughts. Then he throws the piece of clay and goes on living. And we found this piece at the excavation and saved it, only it has no scientific value. Take it. My gift to you.
The piece of this clay fit perfectly in my hand, and the fingers of the unknown medieval author touched my fingers.
I decided to scan it and show it to you.
