The SNV-2 Valiant was a small two-place basic trainer for US Navy pilots during World War II. It featured an all-metal construction with fabric-covered control surfaces and an enclosed cockpit. It was designed to challenge student pilots with the use of two-way radio, an adjustable-pitch propeller, and adjustable landing flaps.
This particular airplane came to rest on February 29, 1944. It was being flown by Lieutenant (jg) Carter Perry and instructor pilot L.S. Nitka on a training flight when engine troubles forced them to attempt a landing at NAS Seattle (now Magnuson Park). Unfortunately, they did not succeed at their landing attempt and engine troubles quickly became a complete engine failure. The pilots ditched the airplane near OO Denny Park in Kirkland, Washington. Both occupants survived, but the airplane was declared a total loss and was not recovered.
