Long live the Soap Factory! This scan was taken in it’s last days. This is where the first office was. Also seen, are doors to the previous “vat room”, and original stairs to the basement. To get a small sence of what it was like to inhabit this space, please view with a VR headset (I recomend Oculus Quest) via SketchFab in the Oculus Browser.
The Soap Factory was an experimental alternative Art Gallery and Exhibition Programing Organization in Minneapolis Minnesota. In recent years, artist activities were suspended as contractors went to town, removing every white wall, bathroom, office space and gallery in the building. Super structures were removed and the building was gutted of it’s elevator shaft and broiler room infrastructure. At the moment, it apears swiss cheesed, with holes in load bearing walls, beams and supports. It’s a sad sight. I wish we could have restored it to it’s opperational glory. The Soap Factory was a miricle, taken from one community to enrich some other.
