Locality: Ditrău, Romania

No.: 1350

Size: 11.5 x 10.5 x 5.5 cm

3D Model in daylight: https://skfb.ly/oSxII

Description: This is an outstanding specimen of foid-syenite (igneous plutonic rock) from the well-known Ditrău alkaline massif (Romania). The bluish-white sodalite possesses a captivating trait: intense, bright orange fluorescence under ultraviolet light (365 nm, long wave). The activator that gives the intense-bright orange fluorescence in ultraviolet light is due to disulfide ion with a negative charge (S2-) replacing the (Cl2-); and uranyl ion as impurities.
