The soldiers of this unit attacked Westerplatte in 1939 from, among other places, the railway gate. The commander of the formation was Lieutenant Wilhelm Henningsen who was seriously wounded on the first day of the attack on Westerplatte. He died the next day. After him, Lieutenant Walter Schug took command. Until the surrender of Westerplatte, a company of Kriegsmarine infantry tried several times to storm the Polish fortifications without success.
