麦藁手飯碗 (Sometsuke Style Mugiwarade bowl)

This style of rice bowl is called “mugiwarade” because the pattern looks like wheat (mugi) straws. Creator: Kensuke Aoyama at the Kusanokashiragama kiln, Japan.

Price: 5,000 Japanese Yen.

Capacity: about 180 grams.

The bowls are thrown on the potter’s wheel one by one, and made to be thin and light, so as to be easy to use.

They all have their own unique character and variation of the pattern. They can be made larger or smaller according to the customer’s specifications.

Kensuke Aoyama is the son of master Sokei Aoyama (learn more about the master potter here). Kiln: Kusanokashiragama, Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture.
