South Island Giant Moa (NHMW-GEO-2023/0334/0001)3D Model
Digitally assembled skeleton of a South Island giant moa (Dinornis robustus) based on 3D scans of the individual bones. Moas are extinct birds that lived on New Zealand. It was excavated by F. von Hochstetter and J. von Haast in the Aorere Caves near Collingwood at the northern end of the South Island of New Zealand. The skeleton was preparated and mounted by Gustav Jäger and displayed in various exhibitions between 1862 and 1867.
This specimen is currently not on display. The individual bones are available via bITEM.
