After the end of World War II, the Soviet Navy saw the powerful ability of aircraft carriers to fight in the left and right. They fished out the Graf Zeppelin aircraft carrier that had been scuttled by the Germans in Shicheqing and transported it back to China for research, and based on this, they improved and upgraded the catapults, arresting ropes and other equipment. Due to the partial damage to the keel and aging of the Zeppelin aircraft carrier when it was sunk, the Soviet Union placed its hopes for developing naval aviation capabilities on battleships. RETVIZAN is a new generation Hybrid Warship developed based on the design of the Project.24 “Medium Battleship” (The Kremlin). Compared to the pre war design, RETVIZAN’s main gun has a longer range and stronger air defense capabilities.
