More model informationThis is the head of a throwing spear of a type that was in use in the middle and late Bronze Age, between around 1500 and 900 BC. They were cast with sockets to fit a long wooden spear, and the loops on the sides may have allowed the spearhead to be bound to the shaft, or could perhaps have held decorative ribbons.
Bronze weapons like this are often found in watery places, such as bogs, rivers or lochs, where they may have been thrown as offerings. This example was found near Canisbay, near John O’Groats in Scotland.
