Description: Inoceramus hobetsensis is an extinct relative of the modern-day mussel. It lived in the late Cretaceous, which is just before the dinosaurs went extinct. It was a filter feeder (bivalve) living in the sub-benthic zone, likely attached to a solid substrate. The inoceramus genus contains many, many different species, and it was a very common bivalve at this time in geologic history. It is one of the many preserved marine fauna that can be found in the marine sediments of the Nanaimo group, particularly on Sucia Is. in Washington State.
