More model informationThe Rolls-Royce car mascot ‘Spirit of Ecstasy’ was commissioned in 1911 by Claude Johnson, the managing director of Rolls-Royce, and designed by sculptor Charles Robinson Sykes. The figure was designed to convey ‘speed with silence, absence of vibration and the mysterious harnessing of great energy’. The model for the figure was Eleanor Velasco Thornton.
