More model informationThis is a model of the gunboat Spitfire that is sunk in the deep cold water of Lake Champlain. The vessel sank during the retreat from the Battle of Valcour Bay which took place on October 11, 1776.
This model was created from digitial photographs taken from cameras mounted on a ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle).
The work conducted to collect the imagery for this model was conducted under a Permit from the US Navy History and Heritage Command and it shold be noted that this vessel is Protected by the Sunken Military Craft Act (2014). The data collection was made possible through support from the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership.
