For this monument I wanted to express the shift away from the religion that I grew up in. Over the past year my dad and I have been deconstructing and that has felt like it has alienated me and my dad from my mom and brother a bit. The two modified cylinders that form a base are meant to represent my mom and brother who have been solid in what they believe in. The two modified cylinders that are askew and look like they can’t possibly be stable in their current state are meant to represent my dad and myself. The strange shape protruding from the center is meant to represent how strange it is that the same faith that provides stability for some people might cause a completely different reaction for others, but it’s ultimately something that is still a shared and connecting experience.
