The Cait class coastal defence ship was designed for Searadias coastal defence force, of which 5 were built. Its main purpose is to provide heavy firepower with less cost than a typical battleship, whilst still being resiliant. The vessel was built in 1896 and was placed into the 1st Coastal fleet where it served its main role of patrolling the coastal regions of Searadia, and the surrounding sparsely habited islands, with the occational blue water operation. A typical coastal fleet consists of atleast 3 capital ships/cruisers and a dozen screening ships, which can be destroyers or torpedo boats. In terms of displacement the Caits are 4000 tonnes normal load and can travel up to 2500km, though crew quaters is tight so it’s prefered to keep close to the islands where there is accommodation, atleast duting peacetime.
