The SS Gafsa was built in 1903 by C.S. Swan & Hunter Ltd., in Newcastle, England. The vessel was owned by C.T. Bowring & Co., London at the times of its loss. When built it measured 106.7m long and 15.2m across and 7m high. SS Gafsa was a cargo vessel and on 28th March 1917 it was carrying a cargo of fuel oil from Port Arthur to UK when it was torpedoed by German submarine U-57. She now lies on seabed in 86m water depth.
