More model information

A partially photogrammetry based and partially parametric model of the SS Kamloops, a Canadian freighter that sank on or about the 7th of December, 1927, a few hundred feet offshore of Isle Royale.

The wreck is in 180’ to 260’ of water, which the stern being from 180’ to 230’, and the bow being from 230’ to 260’. The ship sank slowly leaving it almost completely intact, and the cold fresh water and preserved the cargo exceptionally well.

The photogrammetry based portion of the model is based on video taken from a GoPro Hero4 with two Big Blue 4200VLPs for lighting. The model required 8 hours of processing to generate, but countless reruns and a lot of editing. The parametric based portion is based on the survey of the wreck performed by the National Park Service.
