SS Minnehaha was built by Harland & Wolff Ltd, Belfast, Ireland and owned by Atlantic Transport Co. Ltd., London. She was a defensively-armed British Merchant ship measuring in at 183 m in length, 19.93 m in width and 12 m in height. On the 7th September 1917 when 19 km Southeast from Fastnet Rock, Southern Ireland she was torpedoed without warning and sunk by German submarine U-48. 43 lives were lost. Prior to its sinking the liner went aground on Sicily Rock on the 18th of April 1910 along with her crew of 171 members, 66 passengers and general cargo while on route from New York to Tilbury. The ship was refloated on the 11th of May 1910 after seawater was pumped out of the ship and was able to discharge its cargo in Falmouth.
