This digital 3D model shows the wreck of the SS Nemesis located offshore from Woolongong, NSW, lost on 8/9 July in 1904.
The SS Nemesis was a 73-metre iron-hulled steam ship that was carrying coal when it disappeared in a storm 120 years ago, resulting in the tragic loss of all 32 people onboard. While fragments of the ship and some bodies washed ashore, its location remained a mystery until Subsea Professional Marine Services discovered it by chance while searching for lost shipping containers off Sydney in 2023.
This digital 3D model has been created using photogrammetric 3D reconstruction techniques by Daniel Adams, Curtin University HIVE from footage provided by Heritage NSW from CSIRO Marine National Facility (https://ror.org/01mae9353) and Subsea Pty Ltd.
