St Alfege Church Steeple (John James 1731). This is a point cloud of the internal chambers of the steeple. AT the lowest level is the medieval wooden staircase leading from the vestibule to the bell ringing chamber. A vertiginous staircase then leads to the chamber housing the clock mechanism (visible in the scans). A long ladder ascends into the bell chamber housing the ten bells within an enormous wooden frame. Another ladder then takes you to the chamber of the four clock faces, one for each cardinal point. This chamber shows wekly in outline in this edit of the model. Above this there are two more chambers making seven stages to the steeple in total. The 1731 works by James encased the then still standing medieval church tower so that although the outer stonework is eighteenth century, some of the inner surfaces are medieval.
