More model informationDiscovered in two sections during renovation work at the St Andrews Preservation Trust Museum. A further upper section has not been located.
The inscription was recovered using Photogrammetry and Reflectance Transformation Imaging:
“On Christ my Shepherd I’ll depend; From him I will not stray; I will expect a blessed end; If he do lead my way”
This is a verse from “The Mother’s Catechism for the Young Child” by the Reverend John Willison, Minister of the Gospel at Dundee. This was first in print in 1716 and was very popular throught Scotland and beyond for over 100 years.
One possibility is that this is the lower half of a young child’s gravestone from the mid to late 18th Century.
