More model informationSt Mary’s Church in Ellesmere (Shropshire, UK).
With Norman origins, most of the fabric of this church dates from the 14th and 15th centuries. The chapel in the south chancel dates from the early 14th century and has, according to Pevsner, ‘the finest roof in Shropshire’. The tower contains a mixture of medieval and later work, but mostly dates from between 1439 and 1449.
The chuech was heavily restored in 1848-49 by George Gilbert Scott, who replaced the nave, restored the transepts and added a stair turret. Later Victorian restoration included the south chapel and parts of the east walls.
The church is a Grade I listed building.
