More model informationTympanum on the northern portal of St-Pierre-le-Vieux church in Strasbourg, France. First attested in 1130 CE, archaeological finds indicate that an older church on the site may date to the Merovingian era (6th century CE). This church is particular because it houses both Roman Catholic and Lutheran congregations in a special situation known as the simultaneum, set by a decree of Louis XIV in 1681. Lutherans retained the nave while Catholics celebrate in the choir, divided by a wall built on the old rood screen. In 2012 a door was built on this wall as a reconciliary gesture between the two communities.
