Star Trek Klingon Bloodwing Class

This is one of my designs that was approved by Paramount for use in a Star Trek video game, so it’s an officially recognized Klingon ship. I designed this ship for Taldren’s “Starfleet Command: Orion Pirates” expansion. It’s an advanced Klingon X-Destroyer just after the original Kirk movie era.

A little background: the Klingon ‘Bird of Prey’ was originally intended to be a Romulan design in Star Trek III, but the scene where the Klingons steal it was removed from the script. I’ve always been a big fan of the original Klingon D-7 design and wanted a destroyer that hearkened closer to those roots, with the BOP influence tempered in that direction. As it’s an advanced ship, I took a little direction from the TNG Vor’cha, too. I also wanted to make the ship look like it was ready to pounce, like a spider.

This is an extremely low poly model, designed for use in game engines at the turn of this century. I did add a bit of detail with bump mapping, but this is the same mesh that was featured in the game.
