The 218 ft wooden package freighter Starrucca was built in 1875. There is not much more in the historical records about Starrucca other than it grounded and sank ten miles east of Grand Marias Michigan in November,1888 while bound from Buffalo, NY to Duluth, MN. The fact that it sank in November suggests the sinking was probably caused by a storm. It is one of a dozen shallow shoreline wrecks between Whitefish Point and Grand Marias, Michigan which get covered and uncovered year to year by the shifting sands in the area. This summer 2022 season found not much of the shipweck exposed – mostly the boiler and propeller and what appears to be a couple pieces of the sides of the ship scattered over a large area. Although shown contiguous the two major sections of the bottom area are slightly separated. The model was created from 848 30 megapixel images shot by Andrew Goodman on a DPV dive.
