Torlonia Collection at Louvre Paris until november11, 2024 This masterpiece is attributed to a workshop specialised in copy work, located near Baiae, Campania (Italy). Plaster copies that had been used to reproduce the originals were found in fragmentary form, attesting to a pronounced taste for statues from the early Classical Greek period (480-450 BC). The solemnly monumental original of ‘Hestia’ is known from this copy above all, the only remaining complete example.

Roman copy sculpted during the time of the emperor Hadrian (reigned AD 117-138), after an original Greek work from around 470-460 BC Parian marble (Cycladic islands, Greece) History of the work: Rome, Giustiniani Collection; then Torlonia Collection

Width: 79.1 cm Height: 201 cm Depth: 55.6 cm
