Modelled by Cliff Featherston.
In 1811 a steam powered grinding mill was added to the site of the windmill at Upminster. The engine was a modified Boulton and Watt Bellcrank engine, and was thought to have first been used in a Thames dredger barge. It was scrapped in the early 1950’s, so this model is based on archaeology and research. Rated at 6hp running at 40rpm it had a 16in dia. piston with a 2ft stroke. The flywheel was 10ft dia. It drove two pairs of millstones.
