The Sten Submachine gun was a cheap, quick and reliable replacement for the Thompson Submachine gun during WW2 for the British Expeditionary force. After the devastating losses of life, equipment and weapons during the evacuation of Dunkirk the BEF needed to replace their arms quickly. The Americans were more than willing to sell Thompson submachine guns to the UK however it was deemed far too costly and expecting a german invasion of the British Isles, the UK decided that they needed something faster, cheaper and domestic. Enter, the Sten Submachine gun. The Sten was chambered in 9x19mm parabellum and had a slower fire than the Thompson and its .45acp rounds, however this helped ammo conservation and helped maintain accuracy. the sten saw multiple variations from the Mk1 to the Mk5 and even had a suppressed variant. This British last ditch weapon was so reliable that even when replacements were available, the sten served on.
