Stone cist burial, Hjärup, Scania, Sweden
This model shows a stone cist burial excavated at an Iron Age settlement, in the outskirts of Hjärup, some 1,5 km from the central place in Uppåkra. The feature was identified on a far stretched ridge, mainly consisting of sand, silt and gravel. Along this ridge other burials were identified, some of them from Iron Age, while others were from Neolithic times. Among the latter two megaliths can be mentioned. The find material recovered from this particular grave feature did not reveal anything about in which archaeological period it was constructed. However, fragmented and poorly preserved bone material was recovered inside of the stone cist, as well as on the outside. Osteological analysis shows that two individuals had been buried. One of them died at an age of 25-35, while the other was a slightly younger male.
The model was photographed and processed by Victor Lundström, Lund University.
