More model informationBioeroded gastropod (Strombus coronatus) in the DISTAV palaeontology collection (University of Genova). Strombus coronatus is a gastropod mollusk exhibiting herbivorous feeding habits. It serves as an indicator of the warm, tropical marine environments. It became extinct during the Piacenzian stage of the Pliocene, likely due to a significant cooling of sea temperatures. The ‘holes’ have been produced by a bioeroding mollusk that tried to feed on Strombus. The 3D model of this species is based on a specimen discovered in the Pliocene deposits of Genova, Liguria, Italy.
This model was realized by Glenda Cantale during the Universal Civil Service (SCU) at the Genoa University.
