Structure 5 Hearth - Ness of Brodgar

This rectangular stone hearth is the central fireplace for Structure 5 at the Ness of Brodgar. Nearly two metres long, it is finely constructed of dense siltstone slabs. The broken flagstones inside it were placed there prior to the last episode of use as a hearth, and they were covered with fine layers of ash left from that last fire.
