This panorama shows the setting and surrounding landscape of a prehistoric cup-marked stone recorded as ‘SS1a’ in Paul and Barbara Brown’s 2008 publication, ‘Prehistoric Rock Art in the Northern Dales’, described as:

“Flat slab in farm enclosures 170 x 135 x 20cm. Close to springs, three cups.”

The stone occupies an unusual location near the foot of a slope, with views largely limited to the northeast and east. The surrounding landscape includes three burnt mounds, one was excavated in 2006 and produced radiocarbon dates of 2400–2140 BCE. Later quarry workings and a limekiln also sit within 100 metres of the stone.
